How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has moved over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a couple other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home comfortable too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, especially during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down faster. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfortable. Whenever possible, utilize supplemental cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with regular, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and make sure the electric is working correctly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more.
